The purpose of the trip to Poi Pet, Cambodia, is to attempt to set up a basic fish hatchery growing Tilapia.
This will be attempted over a 5 week period.
This is a commonly farmed fish throughout the world, and one that grows well with a little input.
The basic set up will consist of animals being farmed adjacent to the ponds where their effluent running into the ponds will fertilise the water and initiate the growth of algae.
Tilapia live off the algae and the bugs in the pond water and bottom.
The hatchery will look at how best to breed and harvest the larvae for growing up in the local conditions.
Hopefully, with much success they will then be able to stock the surrounding rice paddies and sell any extras.
